Crucifix Saves Colombian Reporter’s Life

Latin American Herald TribuneApr 27 -- A wooden crucifix saved the life of a Colombian reporter when it diverted a bullet that has been fired through his arm, passing through and reaching his chest during an attack, doctors and media outlets said.

Hugo Cuartas, a reporter for a regional television channel in the west-central city of Manizales, had just finished taping a program on Friday night when he was approached by a pair of attackers on a motorcycle as he was in his vehicle along with colleague Carlos Arturo Meza Arango.

The robbers forced the two reporters to turn over some of their belongings, and the thieves had started to leave when Cuartas honked the car’s horn. Then one of them returned and fired at him point blank before fleeing.
