Aterciopelados to play

Apr 17 -- After making music and sharing their activist messages for the past 15 years, you might think that Colombian roots rockers Aterciopelados -- performing Friday at the Heineken TransAtlantic Music Festival -- would have nothing new to say.

With eight albums and a few Latin Grammys under their belts, band mates Andrea Echeverri (vocals/guitar) and Hector Buitrago (bass/arrangements) still use their music to convey messages about nature, the role of women in society, war and politics, among other issues.

The band has also worked with Amnesty International, addressing the displacement of native peoples in Colombia.
