Being held captive in Colombia gave sports fan new perspective

Spend five years in the Colombian jungle surrounded by tarantulas, machine guns and people so backward they don't even know who Tim Tebow is.

"People can laugh about it," Stansell said. "But you have no idea what sports meant to me."

He was speaking from his Sarasota home, where he's been happily readjusting since last July. That's when he and two colleagues were freed after 1,967 days of captivity by anti-government forces in Colombia.
