Colombia Backs Extraditing FARC Leader's Companion

Apr 02 -- The Colombian Supreme Court has upheld the extradition to the U.S. of Nancy Conde, a companion of a FARC rebel leader who had guarded Ingrid Betancourt and 14 other hostages.

According to the court, Conde - the girlfriend of rebel leader Gerardo "Cesar" Aguilar - was in charge of a network created by the leftist guerrillas "to acquire communications equipment and medical supplies in the United States, which is why the extradition was requested by a U.S. court."

A federal judge in Washington issued the request after an FBI investigation found that Conde was in charge of purchasing X-ray equipment, GPS devices, satellite telephones and radios, the Supreme Court said.
