Colombia promises millions of dollars for capturing guerilla leaders

Jan 3 -- Rewards of up to 5 billion Colombian pesos (2.5 million U.S. dollars) will be set aside for direct delivery or information leading to the capture of FARC (the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) guerilla leaders, Colombian Defense Ministry said Friday.

The government has planned rewards of "5 million pesos (2,500 U.S. dollars) for each of the FARC's Secretariat and 1 billion pesos (500,000 dollars) for the members of the FARC Chief Staff," said Commander of the Military Forces, General Freddy Padilla de Leon.

FARC suffered setbacks last year, especially after the death in May of one of its top leaders, "Manuel Marulanda."
