Colombia seeks deal for sports centre

Apr 17 -- The Colombian Paralympic team is considering Portsmouth's revamped Mountbatten Centre as its training camp for the London 2012 games.

Representatives from the squad visited the centre yesterday for a tour of the facilities.

The visit comes a few weeks after Malawi's Olympic organising committee praised the £20m redevelopment and its 50-metre swimming pool.

Councillor Terry Hall, who is in charge of culture and leisure for Portsmouth City Council, said: 'The possibility that two or three countries may choose the Mountbatten Centre is great.
