Colombian drug lord jailed in US

Apr 23 -- Diego Murillo, a leader of the AUC Colombian right-wing paramilitary group, has been jailed for 31 years by a New York court for drug trafficking.

The AUC is accused of shipping large quantities of cocaine to the US.

Murillo, who was ordered to pay a $4m (£2.8m) fine, told the judge he had sold drugs to help his fighters, adding he was sorry for harm caused in the US.

But the prosecution said he had led a terrorist organisation and controlled a cocaine-exporting empire.
