Colombian Warlords Extradited to U.S. Want Kin Out of Colombia

Jun 19 -- The highest-ranking Colombian militia chiefs extradited to the United States last year to face drug charges have asked opposition Sen. Piedad Cordoba to help get their families out of the Andean nation, her office said.

The erstwhile warlords told the left-leaning senator during meetings inside U.S. prisons that they would not be able to provide any more information on the activities of the right-wing militias they led until their loved ones were safely away from Colombia, Cordoba’s spokesperson said.

Cordoba traveled to the United States to meet with the former military commander of the AUC militia federation, Salvatore Mancuso, and four other of the 15 warlords Colombia turned over to U.S. authorities in May 2008.
