Ecuador could export energy to Colombia, Venezuela: Minister

Feb 19--Ecuador could begin exports of electricity to Colombia and Venezuela, the country's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy said Thursday.

The announcement follows the Andean country's recovery from electricity shortages from November to January, sparked by drought that hit water supplies to its main hydroelectric plant in Paute.

"We have overcome the energy turmoil," Ecuador's energy minister, Miguel Calahorrano, told state newspaper El Ciudadano.
