A European Court refuses to extradite Yair Klein to Colombia

9 de noviembre de 2010

The Israeli mercenary, who’s now detained in Russia and who allegedly conformed and trained some of the first paramilitary squads in Colombia back in the 1980’s, could instead be freed and sent to his homeland in case the russian government accepts the courts decision. Despite the 10 year sentence that waits for him in the Latin American country, Klein was granted with such a decision after the defendant’s lawyer, Mordechai Tzivin, claimed that his protégée’s rights could be violated if he was sent to Bogotá, given the comment that former vice president of Colombia, Francisco Santos, made months ago. The latter said once that the Israeli should be brought before the Colombian justice to answer for his crimes and then “rot in jail”.
