Guerrilla Commander Arrested in Southern Colombia
Dec 7--A suspected FARC urban unit commander has been arrested in southern Colombia, police said Sunday.
The 32-year-old Tobon Ortiz, considered the commander of the “Bolivarian militias of the 48th Front” of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, “had his area of influence in the cities of Orito, Puerto Caicedo, Puerto Asis, Valle del Guamuez and San Miguel, on the border with Ecuador,” police said in a statement.
Tobon Ortiz was arrested after “three months of investigations and surveillance” in the southern province of Putumayo, police said.
The suspected guerrilla commander was the “right-hand man” of FARC 48th Front chief Edgar Tovar, investigators said.
