Latin America currency and stock markets plummet

Oct 6 -- Latin American currency, stock and bond markets disintegrated in opening trade on Monday on fears over the mushrooming global financial crisis.

Brazil's stock market <.BVSP> halted trade for half an hour after its benchmark Bovespa index dove more than 10 percent to 40,016 points after opening. After the market renewed trade, the Bovespa index was off 10.1 percent.
