Living a dream

Jan 3 -- In Colombia, Carlos Gonzalez was the owner and operator of a successful restaurant. He was forced to abandon his business when guerrilla fighters regularly extorted money from him. Now, living in Kitchener with his family, he is reliving his dream.

He is the proud owner of Carlito's Bakery and Cafe, thanks to the help of members of the Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church.

The congregation collected $26,000 from 26 families and donated the money to Gonzalez as the startup money for the business.

"Ever since I came to Canada, I loved it here," Gonzalez said.

"I'm really happy with the support I've received from the Mennonites."
