Suspected Rebel Security Chief Killed in Colombia

Jun 01 -- A man suspected of being one of the security chiefs for FARC guerrilla group central command member Pablo Catatumbo has been killed in fighting in southwestern Colombia, a military spokesman said.

John Edison Guzman and two members of the Alonso Cortes company of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, were killed by army troops in the mountains around Rioblanco, a town near the border of Tolima and Valle del Cauca provinces, where the units under Catatumbo’s command operate, army 5th Division commander Gen. Jairo Erazo said.

“His great importance came from belonging to the security ring of Pablo Catatumbo, who belongs to the FARC Secretariat,” the general said.
