US renews Andean benefits
Oct 3 -- The US Senate has approved a one-year renewal of longtime US trade benefits for Colombia and Peru, but potentially only a six-month extension for Bolivia and Ecuador.

The deal is a victory for Senator Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, who has raised concerns about Bolivia and Ecuador's treatment of foreign investment and their commitment to US counternarcotic efforts.
