2.481 candidates will run for Congress

Yesterday was the last day possible candidates could enroll their names for the next parliamentary elections, to be held on March 14, 2010. As the registrary offices closed at 6:00 p.m, 2.481 candidates from 16 parties had postulated their names. The 102 seats of the Senate will be disputed by 948 candidates, the Chamber of Deputies, which holds 168 seats, will be contested by 1.533 and the race for the five seats in the Andean Parliament will include 57 hopefuls.
