President Juan Manuel Santos announced that 600 new policemen will be reinforcing the security in Bogotá, starting on Monday. The new members will join the 18.780 police that already work in the Capital City. The decision was made in order to respond a request from María Fernanda Campo, Acting Mayor, who asked for more forces to fight insecurity in Bogotá. Last week, a priest was killed in an apparent cell phone robbery in Calle 26, one of the areas that will become a focus point for the new policemen. Authorities plan to reinforce security on the transportation system, as well as strategic points in the city.
