Ambassador to the OAS will not be replaced

29 de marzo de 2011

Colombian government confirmed that Luis Alfonso Hoyos, ambassador to the OAS, will continue in his role despite the reports that stated otherwise. Strong rumors that circulated during the past days suggested that President Juan Manuel Santos was considering Hoyos’ replacement as part of his effort to normalize relations with Venezuela. Hoyos was the ambassador to the OAS during Álvaro Uribe’s government and was a frequent critic of the neighboring country. “Colombian government has not relieved the Ambassador for Colombia to the OAS, and for the moment has not contemplated changes in the direction of this diplomatic mission”, said Foreign Minister, María Ángela Holguín.
