“The episode in Arauca is an embarrassment to the military institution. It’s inexcusable”, said Colombia’s Minister of Defense Rodrigo Rivera on Wednesday, referring to the participation of Army soldiers in the rape and murder of three children in Tame, a town in eastern Arauca Department. “These are moments of regret and national shame. The Armed Forces were created to guarantee rights and freedom to every Colombian, especially those of women and children”, continued Rivera, who also pointed out that there will be “cero tolerance” against the involved individuals.
