China and Colombia strengthen parliamentary ties

9 de enero de 2009

Hernán Andrade, head of the Colombian Congress, is currently in China to strengthen ties between the parliaments of both countries.

“For China it is very important to further develop its relationship with Colombia", Wu Bangguo, China’s top legislator, said after the meeting with Andrade, who will be in China for one week.

It is not the first time China and Colombia meet to discuss how to strengthen ties. In November 2008, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe met his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Lima, Perú. There, both leaders signed a deal aimed at promoting investments. (Read article about the meeting in Semana International here).
