Colombia, a new member at the UN Security Council

11 de octubre de 2010

The announcement was made by Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos while he visited the city of Medellín during the weekend. Colombia got the support from 140 countries, which guaranteed its election for the 2011-2012 period. “We confirmed enough supporting votes to be elected as members of the United Nations Security Council”, said president Santos. Colombia, that has already been a member for six times, presented a new candidacy in 2006, hoping to use one of the two Latin American seats in the body of 10 non-permanent ones.
