Colombian government makes contact with Farc to ask for Oscar Tulio Lizcano’s liberation

9 de octubre de 2008

Former congressman Oscar Tulio Lizcano, who has been kidnapped by the Farc guerrilla for the past seven years, is very ill. That is why, according to what was revealed today by the government’s Commissioner for peace Luis Carlos Restrepo, there has been contact between official emissaries and the guerrilla to try and come to an agreement for his release, so he can be reunited with his family. “The government has said that we will facilitate a humanitarian action that will be coordinated with the ministry of defense under the direction of the President”, said Restrepo today.

The son of Lizcano, congressman Mauricio Lizcano also made a cry out to the Farc so that his father might be seen by a specialized medical corps. “Mi dad is very sick and the truth is we only beg the Farc to listen to call the government is making…We had heard about his poor condition from some demobilized guerrillas, but now that the government is saying it as well it must be true”.
