Colombian migrants in trouble with increasing unemployment rates in Spain

Around 4,000 Colombian citizens have been directly affected in Spain during 2009 by the financial crisis, which has caused an increase in the number of the unemployed workers in that European country.

According to Spanish official stats, published in Colombia’s daily El Tiempo, in January there were 128,728 Colombians in that country’s social service system, whereas 132, 643 were registered in December. This figure shows how inmigrants are particularly affected when there are economic problems and it also has an effect on the remittances that are sent
