A Colombian wins cycling World Championship

Colombian Fabio Duarte is the new world champion of road cycling in the under 23 years category. He won the title after coming in first at the of 173 kilometers (107 miles) long circuit at Varese in Italy. He beat some of the biggest names in that category like Italian cyclist Simone Ponzi and German John Degenkolb. Duarte dedicated his triumph to his parents and siblings, and said in an interview to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo that he was looking forward to giving his father, a farmer, a small house in the country so he could spend the rest of his life planting his own fields.
