The former commander of the Colombian Police, William Montezuma, was captured for allegedly demanding large sums of money from a guerrilla to release him. Freddy Omar Perez, an ELN guerrilla member who was captured in 2005, said he had given to three police officers including Montezuma , the sum of 600 million pesos in exchange for his release.
