Defense minister to make official visit to Russia

3 de octubre de 2008

Juan Manuel Santos, Colombian defense minister, will be the first minister of this country to make an official visit to Russia. He will travel to that country on Saturday and his main goal for this trip is to participate in the 77th assembly of the Interpol in Saint Petersburg and “to meet in Moscow with the Russian high government to discuss different issues and to strengthen the defense bonds between both countries”, as the official press release reported. Santos’ visit will take place only two weeks after Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez was in that country purchasing armaments. Besides speaking with different members of government about issues like drug traffic and terrorism, he will also have a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
