Ecuador requests serial killer’s extradition

27 de mayo de 2011

Ecuadorian Government officially requested the extradition of Luis Alfredo Garavito, a serial rapist and murderer who killed more than 100 kids between 1992 and 1999. Most of the crimes were committed in Colombia, but there were a few that occurred in Ecuador, which is why the neighboring country also wants to judge him. ‘The beast’ was originally sentenced to the maximum penalty of 40 years in Colombia, but a court reduced it by half because of his cooperation with the authorities. However, the director of Colombia’s prison authority INPEC, Gustavo Ricaurte, dismissed fears the he would be released soon. “The Prosecutor General's Office has 25 cases pending against him”, he said.
