Former ambassador, in prison for alleged links with paramilitaries
Juan José Chaux, former Colombian Ambassador to Dominican Republic and governor of Cauca province between 2004 and 2007, was captured in El Dorado international airport on Monday, accused of having ties with paramilitary leaders.
Colombia’s prosecutor’s office ordered his detention after the leader of the Calima paramilitary block Ever Veloza, alias ‘HH’, confessed that Chaux had met on various occasions with the rebels. Fredy Rendón, alias ‘El Alemán’, also expressed, in an interview with Semana magazine, that Chaux had been with members of this illegal group.
