Former DAS director might have contributed to Luis Carlos Galán’s assassination: General Prosecutor’s Office

According to the General Prosecutor Office, former director of the DAS (Colombian intelligence agency) contributed to former presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán’s assassination, by weakening the political leader’s security scheme. Retired General Miguel Maza Marquez led the DAS at the time when the assassination took place, on 18 August 1989. The Prosecutor Office says Maza Márquez might have known of the crime in advance, and that he therefore reduced Galán’s group of bodyguards of from 18 to 6.
