Former paramilitary chief, extradited to the US

5 de marzo de 2009

Ever Veloza, a.k.a “HH”, was received in Bogotá by agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and then flown to New York, where he will face drug trafficking charges.

Veloza is the 16th paramilitary chief to be extradited to the US in less than a year. He has confessed the most crimes among his fellow paramilitary leaders. There is a controversy in Colombia about his extradition, because NGO’s argue that around 8,000 of his crimes would not be able to be solved.

Veloza was the head of the paramilitary groups Bananero and Calima, which operated in Urabá (North-western Colombia) and the provinces of Cauca and Valle del Cauca.
