Former regional chief attorney to prison

Guillermo Valencia Cossio, former chief attorney for Medellín, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his ties to paramilitary leaders in Antioquia. Valencia Cossio was arrested on September 25, 2008, and was investigated by the Supreme Court, who found him guilty of conspiracy, suppression of documents and illicit enrichment. On October 2010, the former official was included by the United States in the list of Specially Designated Narcotics Traffickers banned from doing business with U.S. citizens. Valencia Cossio is the brother of Fabio Valencia Cossio, former Minister of Interior and Justice of Álvaro Uribe’s government.
