General Montoya, commander of the army, resigns

Commander of the army, general Mario Montoya, resigned this morning after the government recognized last week that some sectors of the military did participate in extra judicial executions. He has resigned less than one week after a huge purge in the military, after of 27 members were removed, including three generals.

“From now on, as a retired general, I will continue with my same convictions, faith and love for mi army and my country”, said Montoya during a brief statement at the army’s command in Bogotá.
