Former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, who was kidnapped by the Farc guerrilla for more than six years, was invited to speak in front of the European Parliament today. During her very emotional speech she thanked the members of this parliament for always supporting all prisoners of the Farc by having presented many resolutions that demanded her liberty as well as that of all the people that were, and still are, held captive by this subversive group. She told the members of parliament that she always knew about their support because of the news in the radio, and had to stop a few times during her intervention to wipe of the tears and catch her breath. “Thanks to you I understood that we wouldn’t be alone”, she told them. “It is a real miracle for me to be able to be in this same room with you right now”.
