Ingrid Betancourt to sue Colombian Government

9 de julio de 2010

The former presidential candidate presented an official requirement along with her family to be compensated with $6,5 million dollars by Colombia´s Defense Office. Betancourt claims the money would pay for the pain and damages suffered during her six years as a hostage of the FARC. She was kidnapped by that guerrilla organization in 2002 and then liberated by Colombian troops in the successful ‘Jaque’ operation in 2008. Government sources claim that the woman was then taken hostage after neglecting an advise not to visit a demilitarized area, while Betancourt assures to have received different concept.
