Inter-American Press Association says press freedom got worse in Latin America

The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA, in English; SIP, in Spanish) said last week, during their mid-year meeting, that “press freedom got worse in the hemisphere in the last six months”.

Although the organization argued that some leaders in the region, including Colombian president Alvaro Uribe, have used an “incendiary rethoric”, it also stated that “a positive situation, among all the gloomy news, happened in Colombia, a country that was once one of the most dangerous for journalism: it has not registered one case in which a journalist has been murdered”.
