Minister’s brother, Guillermo León Valencia, has been captured

Guillermo León Valencia, former director of the attorney’s offices in Medellín was captured by the CTI, a technical investigation unit of the Attorney General’s Office, in that city at 9:30 this morning. This has happened one month after voice recordings were made public, which involved Valencia with the mob group of renowned criminal “Don Mario”.

The former attorney is brother of the current Interior and Justice Minister, Fabio Valencia Cossio, who is in charge of the President’s office since Alvaro Uribe is currently abroad.

Ex attorney Valencia was fired from the attorney’s offices in Medellín last August. Since then, Colombia’s opposition and even the Congress have put pressure on his brother to resign. Today, the Minister read a press release outside Colombia’s presidential palace Palacio de Nariño. “The Interior and Justice Minister, Fabio Valencia Cossio, declares that as Minister he respects the decision by the Attorney General’s Office, as a citizen he complies with it and as brother he expresses a deep feeling of pain and brotherly solidarity”, he said.
