Bogotá’s Mayor, Samuel Moreno, has been suspended for three months by the General Prosecutor, Alejandro Ordóñez, for his alleged involvement in a huge corruption scandal in the public contracting in the city. The preventive decision was made in order to collect evidence in the Mayor’s office. Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos, will have to appoint a temporal mayor for the next three months while the investigation is held. It is not clear yet whether the President should choose from a list presented by the Polo Democrático, current Mayor’s political party, or if he could appoint someone freely. Samuel Moreno’s brother, Iván, was arrested last week by the Supreme Court for his participation in the same scandal.
