Rainy season in Colombia left 159 people dead in 2008

6 de enero de 2009

159 Colombians died in 2008 as a result of the two rainy seasons in the country, whereas the year before there were 106 casualties. Apart from that, 222 citizens were injured last year and around 3,300 houses were destroyed. These figures were revealed by the Disaster Attention and Prevention Office.

Colombia normally has two rainy seasons every year, the first one from March to July and the second one between September and the first weeks in December. The last rainy season was stronger than the previous ones and that explains the increase in the number of casualties.
