Santos announces his foreign minister

24 de junio de 2010

President-elect Juan Manuel Santos named María Ángela Holguín, a former ambassador to Venezuela, as new head of the Colombian diplomacy on Thursday. An expert in international relations, Holguin is a career diplomat and has also served in the United Nations. Many observers think her appointment could help to ease tensions with the Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez.

Holguín will join the president-elect in an European tour beginning on Friday. Santos, who will take office on august 7th , is scheduled to meet British primer minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
