State will pay 2.9 million dollars for Massacre in Naya

14 de octubre de 2008

A high court ordered the Colombian state to compensate with around 6000 million COP (about 2.9 million USD) 82 native Colombians, 52 of which were still minors when they were forced to leave their land.

The high state court condemned the Nation for omission and failure of service, after proving that the police and the armed forces did not stop one of the cruelest massacres, organized by the paramilitaries that took place in Alto Naya in the state of Cauca in the south of the country in 2001, even though they had received sufficient information to anticipate the act. At least 40 people where murdered by the subversive group and about 3000 were displaced from their lands.
