Thousands of students marched throughout Colombia in order to protest against the educational reform proposed by the government. The project, presented by Juan Manuel Santos, pretends to include private investment into the public universities. This is seen by many people as the first step toward corporate control of the educational system in Colombia. The Minister of Education, María Fernanda Campo, stated that public resources will never be enough, which is why it is necessary to bring the private sector to help funding public education. Teachers and union labors also participated in the marches.
