22 de febrero de 2011

Mario Alberto Uribe, former Senator and cousin of former President Álvaro Uribe, was sentenced to seven years in prison for conspiracy to commit aggravated crime. Mario Uribe was found guilty of making alliances with the paramilitaries in order to get elected as a congressman in 2002. According to the Supreme Court, his campaign was supported by paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso, who was extradited to United States. Mancuso and other paramilitaries confessed that they put pressure on voters in different regions to force them to elect particular candidates, including Mario Uribe.
