UNHCR wants Colombia to protect indigenous groups
The United Nations Refugee Agency has asked the Colombian government to protect indigenous groups from violence and displacement.
This request by UNHCR comes after it was reported that members from the Wayuu tribe, in Colombia’s northernmost province (Guajira), had to flee to neighboring Venezuela because they were attacked.
Rod Redmond, UNHCR spokesperson, also informed that the Agency is concerned because violence has not stopped and because indigenous groups are being displaced from their ancestral lands.
