Uribe orders Army rescue operations

12 de mayo de 2009

Colombian president Álvaro Uribe recently ordered the army to continue the military operations for the release of hostages, but he assured none of these would put soldier Pablo Emilio Moncayo at risk. The soldier has been kept hostage by the FARC for over ten years and the rebel group recently announced he was going to be released. Nevertheless, the release has been put on hold because the national government has only authorized the Catholic Church and the ICRC for the rescue, and the FARC insist they need Liberal Party Senator Piedad Córdoba as a mediator.
