US government accepts Uribe’s immunity

1 de abril de 2011

After five months of analysis, the United States’ government finally decided to accept Alvaro Uribe’s immunity. Obama’s administration stated that Uribe should have special protection in the investigations of all the events that happened during his government and that were related to his duties as a ruler. The immunity would only apply for the years in which he was a member of the government, including his periods as Senator and Governor of the department of Antioquia, in the northwest of Colombia. The US government’s position is just a suggestion for the Court, which will be in charge of taking the final decision.
