The concert, which coincides with U.N. International Peace Day could feature up to 12 artists from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and the United States. Cuban folk legend Silvio Rodriguez and local salsa stars Los Van Van will also be participating.
500,000 people are expected to show up to the concert at the infamous Plaza de la Revolución which displays a large image of revolutionary leader Ernesto “Che” Guevarra and has never been used for the purpose of anything other than official Cuban government affairs, except when Pope John Paul II celebrated mass for 1 million Cubans there in 1998. Young Cubans from all over Cuba are ecstatic about the concert which for some could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
