Baltasar Garzón will not advice Colombia

25 de febrero de 2011

The controversial Spanish judge declined, for now, the invitation that President Juan Manuel Santos extended to him to advise Colombia on Human Rights. Baltasar Garzón made it clear that even though he is not going to work directly with the government, he is still committed with the victims of the Colombian conflict. When President Santos announced one month ago that he had invited the judge, a huge controversy was generated among some sectors of the country. Garzón is known internationally for his defense of the principle of universal jurisdiction and for ordering the arrest of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998.
