Colombia will fumigate along border with Venezuela

13 de marzo de 2009

Although Colombia’s neighbours strongly oppose the use of pesticides to eradicate coca crops, Alvaro Uribe’s government has decided it will fumigate in Norte de Santander province, which lies close to Venezuela.

According to the commander of the Armed Forces, Freddy Padilla de León, Colombia will use chemicals to destroy 5,500 hectares of coca plants and will also send soldiers and policemen to eliminate some crops manually. Apart from that, the idea of the Armed Forces is to control the illegal groups that benefit from drug trafficking.
