Deadly landslide in Antioquia Department

28 de septiembre de 2010

At least 30 people were buried alive under an enormous landslide that hit a small village in Colombia’s Antioquia Department on Tuesday. “We hope to begin removing the bodies in about three days, given the size of the landslide”, said Juan Carlos Posada, Antioquia’s Civil Defense Office director. President Juan Manuel Santos also visited the area and called for caution, as the rainy season, which has already caused more than 100 deaths in Colombia this year, may produce further landslides. “Unfortunately the people who were crossing did not listen to the warnings of authorities. That’s why we always ask Colombians to listen to authorities’ recommendations. Be prepared, because winter will be even stronger," said Santos .
