Government withdraws justice reform bill

15 de octubre de 2008

Yesterday President Álvaro Uribe communicated the decision to withdraw from Congress the bill of justice reform. The government decided to give up on the constitutional reform at almost 10 o’clock at night, after the bill was presented for its first debate at the Senate. All the Colombian high courts had very strong criticisms against this proposal declaring the legislative act as inappropriate and improvised, and many members of the senate declared themselves unable to vote on this matter. These reactions had the president make this surprising decision.
